This old
Victorian tale has been given a new lease of life as an up-tempo, colourful
children's musical, and it has its premiere in October at
Wilton's Music Hall. The story tells of two
young friends, who are each granted a wish for their future. Henry wishes for a
piano, whilst
Florence asks for a spotted cow. span

Florence finds financial success in her thriving dairy while
Henry delights audiences with his piano-playing.

In truth, art
and commerce need each other, and Henry and Florence realise that we need more than money
to be happy. With toe-tapping tunes, lots of fun, and sing-a-long songs, spanThe Spotted Cow
and the Pianoforte
will delight young and old alike. All can
participate in the fun!

The RSC has a long tradition of supporting and encouraging new writing. The company
continues to build on this commitment to create new work alongside Shakespeare
and to develop that work within its classical ensembles. The extensive resource
of the RSC allows playwrights to explore the possibilities for epic stories as
well as those of more intimate work. Writers Adriano Shaplin and Marina Carr
have each created a new play working with actors from the current The Merchant of Venice and  The Taming of the Shrew companies, and
both productions will premiere at Wilton’s Music Hall.

12th November to 6th December

Wilton's Music Hall is delighted to announce that the Royal Shakespeare Company will be presenting two new plays at Wilton's this winter.

This world premiere of award-winning playwright Adriano Shaplin’s new
history play is set in London in 1658. The Civil War is over, the King has been executed, Oliver Cromwell has closed the theatres and the talk in the coffee houses is of revolution. Meanwhile England’s most famous philosopher is poised to do battle with a faction of young scientists.

The Tragedy of Thomas Hobbes brings vividly to life a period of
history when science was the new theatre and philosophy became a new faith. It is a provocative and experimental journey back to a time of dead dogs, new gods and apparent miracles.

The magnificent Wilton’s Music Hall will provide a stunning backdrop for
this dark enlightenment comedy.

Adriano Shaplin is co-founder of The Riot Group and has written and
acted in all of their original productions, including Pugilist Specialist which received The Scotsman’s First of the
Firsts award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2003.

Elizabeth Freestone will direct a cast from the ensemble of actors
performing in Stratford-upon-Avon this summer including Stephen Boxer who plays Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew and Angus Wright who plays Shylock in The Merchant of Venice.

history play is set in London in 1658.
