Istrian (Slovenia) -born Giuseppe
Tartini’s career was a mixture of accomplishment and notoriety. A champion
fencer, he was forced to spend years in hiding after killing an opponent in a duel. His ‘Devil’s Trill’ Sonata, apparently dictated by Old Nick himself in a dream, provided a model enthusiastically followed by Paganini and bluesman
Robert Johnson in the two ensuing centuries
