Anyone for cocktails?
Mind you, you’d be hard pushed to get served in here at the moment:
No bar. No booze. No ceiling. There is a fireplace half way up the wall, though, which is fun. That white door to the left of it leads to the second floor dressing room, which is currently being used as an office so it’s a good job it’s been fixed shut or anyone forgetting themselves and walking through it would be in for a surprise.
It’s hard to imagine this room packed to the rafters with revellers as it was during Great Gatsby runs, private parties and just about any Friday or Saturday night you care to mention. I swear I could hear faint echoes of laughter and clinking glasses when I was in there taking this photo. The atmosphere today is every bit as powerful as it always was - just different.
It won’t be long before this space is filled with the sound of happy cocktail drinkers again - late winter/early spring next year if all goes to plan - and we all know how time flies so the re-opening will be upon us before we know it. Can’t wait.
