The oldest grand music hall in the world is putting the music very firmly back into the Hall with the world premiere of the Wilton’s Music 4all Festival. Wilton’s is a hub of inspiration for new talent and this year we are focusing on emerging musical talent.

We have selected the best emerging artists in each of the following categories:
Opera
Contemporary & Jazz
Rock, Pop & Indie
Cabaret & Alternative
Urban, Electronic & DJ

They are being mentored by a professional individual or organisation and rehearsing at Wilton’s, ready to perform live as part of the Festival in May. Mentors include: English National Opera, Dan Gillespie Sells, Tim Whitehead, Bengi Ünsal and DJ Yoda.

The artists performing in the Opera category are:
Lucy Elston
Lucy Elston (soprano) graduated with Distinction from both the Wales International Academy of Voice (MA under Dennis O’Neill), and Trinity Laban Conservatoire (MMus under Alison Wells). In 2019, Lucy was a finalist of the Douglas Rees Memorial Young Opera Singer of the Year and awarded an honorary mention in the Kyrenia Opera Competition. She created the role of Natalya for Whittaker’s The Proposal at The King’s Head Theatre. Lucy appeared with British Youth Opera in The Vanishing Bridegroom and has her own company Opera in the Meantime.

Thomas Isherwood
Thomas Isherwood is a 28 year-old operatic baritone from Watford. He began singing at the age of 15 following a very musical upbringing and a fateful school production of Les Miserables. Since 2010 Thomas has been training his voice and holds undergraduate/masters degrees from the Royal Northern College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama respectively. Thomas is currently in his final year at the Royal College of Music International Opera Studio where he studies with Timothy Evans-Jones and in April 2020 he will be making his debut appearance in the Glyndebourne Opera Festival chorus.

Edward Kim
Edward Kim is baritone from Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University and is currently studying for a Master’s degree with Janis Kelly at the Royal College of Music. He has won many competitions and awards, including Internationally Conducted Music Concours (Grand Prix) in Estonia, Korea Concours (Grand Prix) in New York and at the Osaka international competition (1st). In London, he sung Elgar’s Apostles with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Haydn’s Il mono della luna with the RCM Opera Studio.

Theodor Uggla
Swedish tenor Theodor Uggla is currently studying for a Master’s in Performance at the Royal College of Music, under the guidance of Dinah Harris. Theodor began his training in Stockholm, with opera singer Anders Bergström and later with Björn Asker in Copenhagen. He combined his training with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics at Lund University. After graduating in 2016, Theodor made the decision to sing full-time at the Malmö Academy of Music.

With thanks to Nicholas Roberts and English National Opera for mentoring the Opera category.

Nicholas Roberts trained in stage management at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He joined the Stage Management team at English National Opera in 1983 and has held the position of Head of Planning since 1995.

In 2017 he created ENO Studio and produced the inaugural Studio Live season at the company’s rehearsal studios in West Hampstead.  Following on from that initial success Studio Live presented two productions in 2018; Acis and Galatea in West Hampstead and Paul Bunyan at Wilton’s Music Hall. The production of Bunyan was nominated for an Olivier Award and has just been revived at the newly reopened Alexandra Palace Theatre.
