Schubert String Trio, Bartok and Kodaly plus two world premieres from leading contemporary composers.

The first concert in our resident Kreutzer Quartet's winter chamber series is built around extraordinary works written by 19 year-old Franz Schubert in 1816. Balancing this, they present two colourful and exciting Hungarian works from the early 20th Century: duos by Kodaly and Bartók. They will be joined for this concert by regular guest, Diana Mathews.

We are also delighted to welcome back two composers who are no strangers to Wilton’s Music Hall. The Kreutzers premiered Sadie Harrison’s ‘Gallery’ here in 2013 and Richard Beaudoin’s String Quartets in 2011. Recordings of these works, on Toccata Classics and New Focus Recordings, were subsequently released to great acclaim so we are fortunate, indeed, to see Sadie and Richard return, each for another World Premier. Sadie's 'Broken Wing' is a virtuoso tour-de-force written specially for Kreutzer Quartet's Peter Sheppard Skӕrved and Mihailo Trandafilovski and inspired by a sculpture made by Peter and his son Marius, in turn inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches of bird’s wings. Richard's ‘Bacchante’ was written for Kreutzer cellist Neil Heyde using his innovative composition technique of microtiming, which begins by taking millisecond-level measurements of the rhythm in a recorded performance - in this case a 1913 Debussy recording of his prelude Danseuses de Delphes.
