Come with us on a journey from the Northernmost tip of Sumatra to the expanses of Papua through movement. Kabaret Nusantara takes traditional Indonesian dance forms and ritual—with its dynamic movements and intricate costumes—and infuses it with the joy and humour of contemporary dance theatre and burlesque. Lila Bhawa brings the richness of different Indonesian traditional styles (Java, Bali, Betawi, Sunda, Makassar, Dayak) and twenty years of artistry onto a contemporary stage.
Performed by a company of dancers, this is a decadent and joyous celebration of the beauty and complexity of the archipelago’s intangible cultural heritage. This is a rare chance to see world-class traditional Indonesian dance centre-stage performed by master dancers, the first of its kind ever presented in London.
As seen on BBC News Indonesia, and their sold-out concerts with Southbank Centre and the London Symphony Orchestra.
